Open Challenges for the Next Generation of Programming Agents
Programming agents have made tremendous progress recently, to the point where many organizations can rely on them to produce most of their code. Despite this success, a number of open problems remain to push these tools to the next level of productivity. In this presentation, I will outline some of these open problems and provide an overview of some ongoing research aimed at addressing these limitations.

At MIT, Prof. Solar-Lezama has led the Computer Aided Programming group, which has made key contributions to the field, including demonstrating the use of program synthesis for automated tutoring, some of the earliest applications of language models to program synthesis tasks, as well as early applications of program synthesis to the rejuvenation of legacy code. His work has been awarded the ACM SIGPLAN Robin Milner Young Researcher Award for his impact on the field of programming languages.
